Ok, so since so many people were into the Demon Lord theme, let's continue this journey into darkness for another month... this time, with the Gates of Hell.

You can do what you want as long as its with traditional materials (nothing digital).

aseryen thanx alot this was a really rough sketch for the most part I used this to experiment with different mediums and such....i might try to go over it again with more clean detail though since its pretty messy

Hi everybody! This is the first time I participate in a sketchtheatre contest.
I used watercolor and a little bit of grey ink on my submission. I tried to create a lifeless yet observer and very disturbing place. I hope you like it!

here are my Gates of hell in the belly of the beast! I had a lot of fun with this piece. I'm really stoked to see all the different interpretations of the gates of hell.

My first participation in the forum, good luck to all, congratulations for the great work.

I used a poor-quality A4 paper, pencil, ink and some Prismacolors markers.
I loved the theme and tried to do something a little different, maybe people should be invited to enter hell and so maybe he is rather attractive, I do not know, I really like to think that a succubus will welcome me sometime ... lol

For those who do not know what it is the "succubus" she is a demon known in many cultures to invade the man´s dreams and sucking all your energy. :) There is also a male version, for the ladies called Incubbus.

Damn I hate scanning sketches they always look like crap compared to the original anyway some really nice stuff pouring thru here
I took my first one and added some color with prismas and markers to bring it out more

Hey all I've got to say I have suffered at having problems when I scan pencils too. It seems to be tuff getting all the values as they are actually drawn out. I scan at 300 dpi in colour mode. Is there any recommendations on how scans can be improved to get the drawn out values and shades from pencil work?

Sorry I might be late on the submission, but I thought I should upload it anyways. Inspired by Dante's The Divine Comedy....the illustration shows Dante and Virgil ready to enter hell and its 7 levels.

Carlos Kike, wasn't it a pain to draw those spines. Spines drive me crazy, tried them for my entry but got them out because I couldn't get them right.

Well, there are numerous ways to improve scans (for example lightly brushing over them with dodge and burn tool in PS to push forward parts you want to emphasize or soften speckles, smudges, mistakes) but as far as I can understand, digital tweaking is a big no-no here.

When is the deadline for this thing, I personally think one month to do this is too long since this isn't digital work or even if it was......

I believe this should be like a 2 week jam in the least anyways great work everyone......:mad:

Yeah, I was looking for a way get a really good scan in the settings without digitally tweeking the drawing. As I think that's against the rules here and just for my own use. I like to draw out images and scan them in but keep the pencil lines and the sketchy feel when I colour.

Who said The Gates Of Hell had to consist of a huge Gate, with this idea I have shades falling into a huge tower filled to the brim in lava as they enter and there poured out the mouths of giant skulls that open and close thier jaws to release them into the deep depths,I got this idea from Dantes Inferno videogame when shades our vomited into hell

I wanted to do this one as a test to see how the resolution came out and add a new piece
I really like how this one came out compared to my last two

how do you figure this is not traditional man, the only digital part is it being scanned and re sized in Photoshop,believe me this is very traditional because my digital work far surpasses this.......
